TWS Gold Medal

Nassau #1: Discount Warehouse - 41" x 41"

I learned a few days ago this painting won the top prize at the 61st Texas Watercolor Society Annual Exhibition. This is a major show with a lot of big names, and Janet Walsh and Arne Westerman were the judges. Thank you! Other award winners include Soon Y. Warren, Duncan Simmons, John Salminen, and Dan Burt. The opening reception is April 10 at the Rockport Center for the Arts.

Most excellent news Nicholas - nice to see this work gain steam and get the kudos it deserves - just takes the right eyes and a judge ready to step outside the ring of politics. Looks like you'll have one foot in rattlesnake territory and the other planted in the land of the dragon. Not bad ... not bad at all -

Congrats Nick! So well deserved. This one is something special!

Bill - you obviously realize what's going on out there..no different from any other old guard institution resistant to change. Nice that our friends in China are looking to the future rather than the past.

Deb - thanks, nice to see you, will be over soon!

HI Nick, I've had a brief-ish break from the blog scene and my computer broke down > again! But I'm here to congratulate you on yet another major award!! I'm one who knows the difficulties of liqid-aquamedia large-scale work (mainly through a healthy collection of failures and a few successes here and there.) For one, they can be back-breaking to work on!!!

I love the colour in this work and the composition is powerful too. Tonally (i.e. values) are well distributed/pitched imo and it would 'work' as a monochrome work, standing out on that footing alone. Adding in the NS-factor no-holds-barred colors, and you're on a winner!! And which you've achieved. Congrats Nick!!
I hope to be a better blog follower/friend to all you guys whose work we mutually follow,
cheers man,
Wayne

Susan - thank you, I see you're getting into the fluid acrylics and doing great work with them. (this picture is straight watercolor on slightly-gessoed paper)

Sandy - always thinking about you, we need to catch up soon on skype..enjoy your summer, I just shoveled out of about 4 feet of snow today!

Wayne - never ever apologize, sir! Wherever you are out in cyberspace, you're never far from my thoughts while toiling in the studio. You've heard the expression WWJD? That one never occurs to me! heheh Mine is WWWD? I appreciate the insightful comments and the time you take to make them, thanks so much for stopping, tovarish.

By the way..... the above post I responded to was evidently posted on many blogs, all with the same wording. Advice: if you're out fishing around for links and referrals, at least try to make your BS look genuine. Oh, and actually having a links page on your site would also help.
